About Us

Our story

Hopesgrove all started when we (Pieter & Paige) decided to move to the other side of the world to plant some vines. We were visiting family in Hawkes Bay, stumbled across this place - tucked into north-facing, limestone hills just outside of Pakipaki - and fell in love with it. Our vineyard was planted in 2005 - the rest is history.

Over the past couple of decades, we've spent a lot of time learning about our land, our soil, and how our vineyard grows - what our wines need to thrive. Farming organically, without the use of any systemic pesticides or herbicides, is the only option in our minds. After all, wine is grown from the soil up.

Our wines are the result of a lot of vine care, selective yields, and a traditional wine making ethos of 'less is more'. We think wines should purely reflect their unique place, their unique terroir.

Our name

The name Hopesgrove comes from the land - the people who were here before us were olive farmers. Our Chardonnay vineyard is right next to a block of old olive trees that we still make oil from today.

Thanks for being a part of our journey.
